Peter Sematimba’s dilemma
Artistes have a hard time convincing people that they are serious when they stand for political posts. The trend started with Bakayimbira’s Charles ‘Siasa’ Senkubuge during his 2001 presidential bid. Things were not made any easier by Amarula Family’s Paddy Bitama’s attempt at registering for the 2006 presidential election. So, when Kampala mayoral aspirant Peter Sematimba went to address fellow artistes at the Jam Session at the National Theatre on Monday, he had to play his cards very carefully. First of all, the slogan he used was not his official one. He moved for the more casual “Kampala Tumulyewo” street talk for “Let’s take over Kampala”. Then he had to mingle with Rastafarians to show his oneness with the ‘brothers’. But he still had to cut the image of a serious politician and decided he would neither sing nor dance, all the imploring from the MC notwithstanding. Hmm.

Jovia’s niece falls prey to MUK goons
Students of Makerere University might have gone for holidays, but the ever vigilant goons have surely not. Jovia Saleh’s niece, Kiconco and her course mate, Hilda Komugisha learnt that the hard way. The two girls, who had gone to see their supervisor at the Geography department last week, left their bags, which had money and fancy phones, in their blue Range Rover parked at St Francis Chapel’s park-yard. Goons, who were armed with master keys, broke into the Range Rover. When the girls returned, not only were their phones missing, but the rogues had even made off with their pass slips and research papers! After placing a call through to home, the place was swarmed with police detectives in minutes. But it was a tad bit too late to catch the sly scoundrels.

WBS TV reporters shift to UBC TV
It seems like there has been a big influx of human resource from WBS TV to UBC TV. After Tegulle Gawaya, reporter Joseph Basoga and Luganda news anchor Robert Kagolo have followed suit after falling out with the WBS TV station’s management.
