IN every girl’s dream is a man. Judging the good, bad and ugly may be a hard job, but there are always telltale signs of danger. For marriage-oriented girls, look out for marriage material and avoid time-wasters. A chat with a number of girls about their experiences with men concluded in a list of the men to avoid.

Mama’s boy

Marvin Mama’s boy never does anything without asking mama.
He talks about his mother every two seconds. “My mum… .my mum… .my mum!” You will always ‘date’ the two!

You don’t cook well unless you do it like his mother. If you have a fight, he camps at mama’s who will call asking you to work on your attitude. After wasting your time trying to be like his mama, he will take you to your favourite place and ditch you, because his mama told him to!

Lenny the leech

Lenny Leech does not like work. He is lazy and suffers from acute dependency syndrome.
He needs money so you become his official bank. He is the species that wouldn’t mind you having a richer guy to ‘tap’ from and bring to him.

Besides spending all day at your house flipping TV channels, while you are at work, he will not clean up or empty the trash can. He drains you without returns. By the time he dumps you for a richer girl, you will have wasted enough money to buy three mansions!

Cry baby

Planning to have kids someday? Don’t marry one. Johnny Crybaby is always whining, pity-partying and telling his problems to whoever cares to listen.
You will spend half your time listening to his miseries, the other half advising, consoling and rebuilding his self-image.

But hey girl, when does he stop crying to listen to you? A man’s got to be a man. By the time you wake up, a break-up will be long overdue.

Preacher man

Peter Preacherman loves Jesus. But then Peter wants you to abandon all your career ambitions to become a Sunday school teacher even when your calling is being an engineer!
“I want you to support me in my job as a preacher,” he will demand.

Possessive Paul

Possessive Paul is very demanding and controlling. He wants total submission, wants to know every entry in your phonebook, all your friends, acquaintances and workmates “Who was that?” he will always ask.
He is paranoid about your friends because “they will bring you men”. Whenever you are going out, you either go with him or you don’t go at all!!

You have to explain how you got every coin or possession. Then he will demand that you leave your job and stay at home. Paul is the type that can be pathologically jealous and violent.

Hip-hop, bar hopper

Harry the Bar-hopper hangs out in Wandegeya, Kabalagala and little digs. He abandoned school before sitting for his A’level exams or completing his degree, but he is trendy and doesn’t look like a dropout.
He hops from one bar to another all night, all week. He is flirtatious, irresponsible and unreliable. Marriage freaks him out. It’s all about him and the boys.

Basically, Harry is immature. By the time you wake up, you are hitting 30 and he is still running up and down with younger girls. Your years have run out and so have your potential suitors.

Uncle money

For Uncle, money is power! He will woo you with money, take you to expensive places and buy you expensive gifts. He spends the evening telling you which countries he has travelled to, what foods he has eaten from which restaurants. He promises to take you to exotic holiday destinations.

This guy is nice if you want to live dreaming. The moment he gets you, you realise ‘his’ car is borrowed and he has huge debts. You become the laughing stock, because everyone else, but you knew his financial status.

Physical Phil

All Phil wants is your body, sex, sex and sex. Beyond that, he doesn’t have time to just talk and listen or do some fun things with you. For “quality time” with Phil, you have to follow him to watch a football match you don’t like.
