Former champions SC Villa had to fight from a goal down to earn a point from visiting Kinyara in the national super league match played at Namboole yesterday.

Villa’s tactics of fielding a side, devoid of Robert Ssentongo, Steven Nsereko and first choice goalkeeper Ibrahim Kongo who was replaced by Robert Saka saw them play second fiddle to the visitors.

They were shocked when veteran Fred Makhoha put the visitors in the lead after 16 minutes after capitalising on a through pass.

Second half substitute Ssentongo levelled in the 48th minute to help the Jogoos carry home a point. Tom Ssemwogerere, Mike Sebalinga and Jeremiah Ssebuyira missed easy chances to ensure rivals Express remain joint top of the league table with URA.

At Nakivubo, veteran Ibrahim Buwembo, coach/player for Super Cubs scored his team’s first goal of the league but could not stop a 5-1 rout at the hands of army side Simba. Godfrey Wakaza’s hat trick and Mood Kawere’s effort were boosted by Trevor Kibirango’s own goal to lift Simba to eighth position on the table from 12th.

Meanwhile, Express head coach George Ssimogerere has warned against complacency going into today’s fixture at home to KB Lions.

The Red Eagles, inspired with the 2-1 win over Villa last week, entertain the league debutantes seeking maximum points.
