ACTIVITIES to mark the Kabaka of Buganda, Ronald Mutebi II’s 51st birthday climaxed on Thursday with a cocktail he hosted for his ministers, Abaami (chiefs) and Abataka (clan leaders).
The birthday party hosted in the gardens of Bulange, the seat of his government at Mengo, was climaxed with the monarch cutting a cake.
Amid chants and singing of “happy birthday to you...” a beaming Kabaka dressed in a snow-white kanzu (tunic) and black coat cut a cake under the glowing multi-coloured lights that illuminated the vicinity.
Guests included former Mengo ministers who resigned last year to pave way for the new cabinet headed by Katikkiro Dan Muliika.
The Kabaka sat in his leather dark tan throne, light from the multi-coloured glowing from the conical decoration.
Muliika proposed a toast for the long life of the Kabaka to which the dignitaries present chorused “Wangaala Ayi Sabasajja, Ogundegunde”, meaning May you live longer.
Muliika said the Kabaka was revered as the person on whom Buganda’s culture, traditions and norms are hinged.
