— The General Court Martial has postponed to July 3 the trial of former army commander Maj. Gen. James Kazini and nine other top army officers on charges of inflating the army payroll leading to the loss of sh261m. This was to allow prosecution to produce its next witness.

Eight jailed
MOROTO
— Eight karimojong warriors were on Monday sentenced to jail terms ranging between four and nine years for illegal possession of firearms. They were sentenced by the UPDF 3rd division court martial chaired by Lt. Col. Eugene Ssebugwawo.

Two arrested
BUGIRI
— The police have arrested two local defence unit (LDU) men over the robbery and murder of two businessmen in Buswale sub-county. Buyinja Police chief Wabwire Musana identified the LDUs as Asananziyo Bwire and Richard Mutukula.

Lango hails
KAMPALA
— The Lango Parliamentary Group (LPG) has welcomed the appointment of Otuke MP Daniel Omara Atubo as lands minister, saying it will bridge the political gap between Lango and the Government. LPG chairman Okullo Epak was addressing journalists at Parliament yesterday.

Police hunt
KAMPALA
— The Police are trying to ascertain the source of a gun believed to have been used in the weekend attack on Luzira Maximum Prison. The sub-machine gun containing 12 bullets is being kept at Jinja Road police station. It was recovered in an operation that led to the arrest of UPDF’s Pte. David Paul Opika.
