Busia border post is leading in informal cross-border trade, a trade survey report has revealed.
“Among the border posts monitored, Busia emerged as the busiest station, taking the highest percentage share of 42.7% and 54.3% for exports and imports respectively,” a report released recently by the Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) said.
The report said most of the products exported through Busia are agricultural commodities like maize, beans, potatoes and millet.
Mpondwe along the DR Congo border was ranked second with a share of 25.% of exports and 10.6% of imports, while Malaba came third with a share of 7.8% and 19.9% for exports and imports respectively.
Paidha was fourth with imports share worth 9.3% and 2.2% of exports.
The report was compiled between August 2004 and December 2005.
