THE US$6m (about sh11b) bio-gas power project at Sugar Corporation of Uganda (SCOUL) has kicked off, S.C. Khanna, the chief executive officer, has said.
Khanna said the project, which can generate more than 6MW, is producing only 3.5MW.
“The plant needs much sugarcane to get enough sugarcane residue (bio-gas), but we are getting low supply from outgrowers. This is limiting our power generation capacity,†he said.
Khanna, however, said that SCOUL would continue buying power from Umeme during seasons when the sugarcane supply would be low.
