Judiciary should not take all the blame

SIR — on July 26, your reporter Hillary Nsambu, wrote an article about the backlog of court cases which has made the public accuse the Judiciary of corruption. Why have the nominated people never been formally appointed as judges? With due respect, the cause of delay should not be blamed on the Judiciary alone. The advocates, Police, probation offices, Prisons, and prosecution are all to blame. Parliament and the Executive are also responsible.
For example, in cases involving capital offences like defilement, Parliament should have empowered chief magistrates and not insisted on the high court.
On the other hand, the Executive failed to make parliament amend some of the obsolete laws, which were enacted in colonial days.
The Legislature, Executive and Judiciary as the three organs of Government should work together to address the backlog issue.
otherwise, there is no need to give MPs a free sh5m so that they can pass some laws!
