THE cream of world athletics, Uganda’s own Dorcus Inzikuru and Boniface Kiprop included, assemble in Monaco tonight for the invitational 3rd IAAF World athletics final.

Inzikuru, 23, the first world champion from Uganda, has the season’s best time of 9:15.04.

She is still chasing the 9:01.59 world record held by Russian Gulnara Samitova and the last major athletics meeting of the year is a great chance.

“Only the top ranked athletes are invited for the finals. She is expected to have stiff competition and improve her time,” said local athletics federation secretary Beatrice Ayikoru.

Inzikuru is on the shortlist of five for the IAAF ‘performance of the year’ award tomorrow night.

Double sprint champion Justin Gatlin completes a full list of 30 Helsinki individual world champions in Monaco, with Kenenisa Bekele the only absentee.
