Apart from the good food, the wine and the seductively clad ushers, the mood at the PAM Awards was great. And so was the fashion.
Morine Wavamunno wore a pale pink evening gown and simple accessories.
Vibrant Maria Kiwanuka of Radio One almost stole the show in a black and red evening dress. Then came Nile Breweries’ Brenda Mbathi. From the way she carried herself, I could tell she knew she was well dressed in a strapless black mermaid dress. Camille Aliker opted for black and she looked great.
Some of the men were dressed in suits and ties, while others did away with the tie. Simple linen and kitenge shirts were very much on show. Elly Karuhanga and Dr Ssebale of Case Medical Centre opted for white linen shirts with black trousers.
Some young men were stylish in their suits and open necked shirts. Then there were those who chose casual wear even though they were in the VIP section.
It is great to be young. For how else would anyone have the guts to wear a hankie to a public function. Some girls’ skirts were so short that you had to blink several times to ascertain if they were actually dressed.
I believe that women who wear skimpy clothes have a psychological problem. Most of them are exhibitionists who cannot bear not being the centre of attraction. These girls kept on walked up and down. At first I even thought they were ushers. Talking of ushers, who can forget the seductively clad nubile young women? It felt good being led by one of them. If I, a woman could feel that way, pity the men. I am sure some men pretended to be lost so they could walk behind these young women for a while longer.
The girls were decently dressed in long straight skirts, cropped tops and belt made out of wooden beads around their hips.
What struck me about these young women was their professionalism. They were polite, confident and tireless. I think they deserve an award.
But the biggest arrest was that of Katumba Wamala, our beloved Police boss. He wore dark brown shoes with a black suit and had the nerve to walk ever so confidently. Hmmm!
For more arrests look out for tomorrow’s fashion police.
