THE First Deputy Prime Minister, Lt. Gen. Moses Ali, has expressed fear that the endless wars in the Middle East would greatly hamper aid to the Muslim community in Uganda.
“After the successive three wars in the Arab world, it may be difficult for us (Uganda Muslims) to receive more support and donations,†Moses Ali said.
He said this on Saturday at a farewell dinner for Al-Hiji Yousuf Jassim, the outgoing Council chairman of Islamic University in Uganda University at Hotel Africana, Kampala.
“The gulf wars have an effect on the generosity of the traditional aid provided. So we should work hard and contribute to the uplifting of our wellbeing,†Ali said.
He hailed the late President Idi Amin for opening up a university, which has contributed to the intellectual component of Uganda.
Al-Hiji Jassim who is also the president of the International Charitable Organisation has served the university for 15 years.
The dinner was attended by diplomats, the Mufti Sheikh Shaban Ramadhan Mubajje, Prince Kassim Nakibinge, Members of Parliament, religious and political leaders.
