THE Ministry of Works, Housing and Communications is unable to pay for several road contracts and suppliers as a result of the sh13b budget cut, senior officials have said.

The officials yesterday told the parliamentary committee on works that the ministry was unlikely to take on additional roads from the districts.

The officials warned that the ministry stood to lose more if the contractors demanded their rights to interest due to Government’s failure to pay them.

They said the works ministry was not included on the Ministry of Finance supplementary budgetlist.
