THE Mufti, Sheikh Shaban Mubajje, has banned Uganda Muslim Supreme Council (UMSC) full-time employees from being agents of the Hijja (pilgrimage) bureau, writes Mariam Nalunkuuma.

“We shall not accept conflict of interest at the UMSC headquarters.

For the 2005 Hijja pilgrim season, we are not allowing any full-time employee of UMSC to be an agent for pilgrims,” Mubajje warned.

He said many officials at the UMSC were agents for pilgrims, contrary to the council administration policies.

Mubajje was at a thanksgiving duwa (prayer) in honour of the pilgrims of 2004 Hijja at Old Kampala on Sunday.

There are about 20 UMSC officials with Hijja bureaus both within and outside Kampala.

“When UMSC asks for a percentage from these agents, some people refuse to pay and we find it difficult to make tight policies when some people of those are among us,” he said.
