THE Law Council on Friday ordered the deputy Speaker of Parliament, Rebecca Kadaga, to respond to accusations of professional misconduct against her by May 14, reports Hillary Nsambu.
“Kadaga should respond to the allegations of professional misconduct by May 14, failure of which, the matter will proceed exparte,” the council’s disciplinary committee, ruled.
The committee, consisting of Elijah Wante (chairman), John Mary Mugisha, Agaba Maguru and Hellen Obura, ruled that a prima facie case had been established against Kadaga, a lawyer by trade and that she should appear and defend herself against it.
It is alleged that Kadaga failed to account for a client’s money awarded by court in a civil suit against Entebbe Municipal Council. She is also facing another count of conduct unbecoming of an advocate.
Matiya Bulago, the complainant, told the committee that Kadaga received sh1.2m being proceeds of a sale of a motor vehicle belonging to Entebbe municipality, but did not give it to him.
Kadaga’s lawyers requested for an adjournment, saying their client had just come back from official duty outside the country, and needed time to prepare.
