UNIVERSAL Primary Education (UPE) teachers in Kampala have been provided with accommodation.
The teachers now have an opportunity to sleep in self-contained storied houses.
Under the Decentralisation Medium Term Budget Framework (DMTBF) programme of the Ministry of Education and Sports, Kampala was authorised to construct storied teachers’ houses and classrooms due to shortage of land.
The City Education Officer, Ann Galiwango, told Education Vision that Kampala City Council has been able to construct four sets of storey buildings for teachers of St. Paul P. S Banda, Mirembe P.S, Mutundwe Church of Uganda and Kyamula P.S in Makindye . Each of the four-unit building cost about sh120m.
Each unit comprises of 2 bedrooms, a sitting room, kitchen, store, bathroom and toilet. The teachers are to meet the utility costs.
“We are in a pilot phase. We lobbied two years ago to allow us construct storied buildings. Land in Kampala is very limited,” she said.
