Cellular communications leaders, MTN were over the weekend in Soroti and Mbale and not just on another product launch.
This time, they took a number of musicians, including Ragga Dee, Mega Dee, Sophie Gombya, Paul Kafeero and Phoebe Nasolo to spice up things.
Last Friday evening in Soroti, the crowd was not just a crowd, but a mammoth one! They surged towards the stage and at one point got out of hand. Not even the appeals of homeboy, MP Mike Mukula, could prevent the surge. He had to send for his Arrow Boys to come and quell the situation.
The acts then got underway in between the buying and selling of MTN products, which Rita Okuthe, the marketing manager, said was a success. “We managed to sell all our products,†she said.
Soroti aside, and like in Mbale, the following evening Ragga Dee and Paul Kafeero stole the show. They belted their hearts out and gave every shilling its worth.
It is no wonder that Ragga Dee is up for artist of the year at Saturday’s PAM Awards because after performing for well over an hour at Mbale Municipal Stadium, he turned up at Club Oasis and gave yet another sterling show.
There was also a surprise act when Taban Amin’s looming figure made an appearance on stage to introduce his band of Lingala dancers. Though they did nothing spectacular they nevertheless thrilled the Mbale crowd.
