The parliamentary committee on social services want the Government to provide private universities and secondary schools with science training equipment.
The committee chairperson, Dorothy Hyuha, said many upcoming universities were shunning introducing science courses.
“Science training equipment are very expensive. You find a secondary school of 1,000 students with one bunsen burner and a small tin of chemicals,” she said.
Hyuha with Prof. E Mugambi, the President of Uganda National Academy of Sciences said the trend has serious negative effects on the development of science disciplines.
The committee was touring eastern Uganda recently and the MPs found many schools, lacking basic science training equipment.
Dr Elioda Tumwesigye (Shema MP, Bushenyi district) said more girls sould be encouraged to study science disciplines.
