KAMPALA — The Electoral Commission (EC) will start preparations for the 2005 referendum after the Christmas season, the EC secretary, Sam Kwakoojo, has said. Speaking at the EC end-of-year party at Fairway Hotel yesterday, Kwakoojo said there would be voter update and registration for the referendum and 2006 presidential elections.

Witchdoctor gets 1 year
KABAROLE — Fort Portal Magistrate Grade One Jamson Karemani has jailed a witchdoctor for one year for stealing a cell phone. Sunday Clovis of Kitumba in Kyepatiko village was convicted of stealing a sh200,000 phone from Oliver Tusiime.

Cement firm given land
TORORO — The Karuwok Clan has agreed to sell their land for the expansion of the Tororo Cement Factory on condition that they be compensated. This was done in a December 11 letter from Christopher Ochwo, a clan elder, to the Tororo cement financial controller.
