Iceland Gives Uganda Grants Worth Sh1.9b

THE Government of Iceland has given two grants totalling US$1,080,000 (over sh1.9b) to the Government of Uganda.

By Milton OlupotTHE Government of Iceland has given two grants totalling US$1,080,000 (over sh1.9b) to the Government of Uganda.The money is for promoting the fish industry and supporting the adult literacy programme in Kalangala.The Permanent Secretary Ministry of Finance, Mr. Chris Kassami, yesterday led the team that signed the agreement on behalf of Uganda while Arni Magnosson, chairman of the Icelandic International Development Agency (ICEIDA), led the Iceland team.Kassami is also Secretary to the Treasury.The Permanent Secretary Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development, Kakima Ntambi, and the Commissioner for Fisheries, Dick Nyeko, also signed the agreements on behalf of their respective departments.The contribution to the fish industry is US$663,000 (over sh1.1b) which is 81% of the cost of the project, while the Uganda Government will contribute US$152,000 (over sh220m).The adult literacy programme will receive US$417,000 (over sh0.7b), 90% of the cost of the project while Uganda will contribute US$49,000 (over sh70m).Ends
