Tabliq head Sheikh Sulaiman Kakeeto has defended the controversial stone-to-death sentence passed by a Nigerian Sharia court on a 30-year-old Muslim mother for adultery. Jude Etyang reports that Kakeeto said in a statement that Parliament’s condemnation of the sentence passed against Amina Lawal (left) signalled “limitations of human understanding” and a misinterpretation of Islam. Lawal was sentenced last week for giving birth to a baby-girl out of wedlock.Kakeeto said Islam and it’s rules were “revealed by Allah and not formulated by men of learning.” He said the MPs should recognise that Amina’s fate is based on “divine injunctions promulgated by Allah himself.”He said MPs need to study Islam, believe in it and act accordingly to appreciate Lawal’s sentence.Ends
