Ban lifted

MBARARA—The Fisheries Department in Mbarara has lifted the 1992 ban on
fishing in six lakes and a swamp where there is plenty of fish.
The district fisheries officer, John Tibihika said the fish in Kigambira, Bwara, Mutukula, Kariitime, Rwoma, Kajuma and Kagogo swamp should be harvested. Presenting a paper on August 29 at Lake
View Regency Hotel in Mbarara, Tibihika warned fishermen that the fishing
nets should be four inches and above, and that the fishing should not be perennial but take place every six months.

Training
KAMPALA—The ministry of water, lands and environment intends to train magistrates and police officers in environmental law.
This will boost the campaign against gross degradation of wetlands countrywide.
The monitoring officer in the ministry, Mr. Francis Ogwal said recently that if the magistrates and police were well acquainted with the environment law they would be in a better position to handle the cases of those who degrade the environment effectively.
