LOOKING dazed by the outcome of his case, he was quickly whisked away from court by prison officers to begin serving a life sentence at Luzira Maximum Security Prison yesterday, for defiling a three-year-old.

It took Justice Vincent Kagaba a lot of thought before meting out the sentence to 28-year-old Gilodin Musisi.

Kagaba on Monday convicted Musisi for defiling a three and half-year old girl but reserved the sentence for Thursday on grounds that he was, “disturbed by the act” and needed time to find an appropriate sentence.

Justice Kagaba also rejected pleas for mercy by the accused quoting a biblical verse, “blessed are the merciful for they shall also receive mercy.”

Musisi, a resident of Nalwana village in Luweero district was convicted for defiling the three-year-old on April 22, 2000 at the same village.

Kagaba, while passing the ruling said Musisi “stooped too low by satisfying his animal urges with a baby.” He told a subdued Musisi, that he was indifferent to the cries of pain and agony that he subjected the toddler to.

“I can safely describe the accused as a murderer whose act cannot be taken lightly,” Kagaba said, adding that it was close to attempted murder.

“He must be kept away from society to teach him a lesson and keep him out of circulation in case he was tempted to repeat what he did,” Kagaba said.

Court heard from the prosecution that the accused had infected the victim with a venereal disease, impaired her vaginal canal and she was treated for the injuries.
