A team of aggressive Mbarara business people have constructed and opened a shopping complex, which they have called, 'City Center.'

The City Center, located on Mbarara High Street, is stocked with most of those choice items, you would usually only find in Kampala.

These include flat screened televisions, mobile phones, DVD-music radio cassettes, an assortment of high quality garments and a host of other things.

Last Friday morning, when the center opened, a crowd of excited people stormed seven of the shops already open. “Abaana batebekaniise ekyizimbe ekyi!" - meaning that, 'a ‘children’ (a local term given to middle-aged men) have planned this building),” one bewildered onlooker remarked. He added that one no longer needs to go to Kampala to buy such items.
