Kenya general election a great lesson!

SIR— While a lot of money was raised by Kenya’s ruling party, KANU with the full prop-up of the incumbent president, this did not stop the opposition, the National Rainbow Coalition, NARC, from winning both at level with a very big margin.
It was only the determination of the people for change. The international observers will have very little to write about as far as election violence and malpractices are concerned.
While there was something to learn from the elections, Kenya had learned a thing or two from Uganda’s past elections.
For the first time in Kenya election history, counting of ballots was done at the respective polling stations. Ballot boxes were not carried away from their respective polling stations for counting. People were there watching the process.
In the East African Community, Tanzania must have also learned something from this electoral process. While Kenya’s KANU has gone tumbling in the election tunnel, the leaders of organisations in Uganda and Tanzania respectively, must have taken note and learned something.
Similarly, the oppositions in those two countries must have learned a thing or two and taken note as well. Tanzania and Uganda will have their elections roughly in two and three years respectively.
The people of the two countries have been watching and they will be waiting. After all they have also learned something from the Kenya general election.
