DISTRICT fisheries officers (DFOs) from Masaka, Kalangala, Mpigi, Bugiri and Mukono, have completed a one-week study tour on the proper management of Lake Victoria in Tanzania, reports Dismus Buregyeya.

DISTRICT fisheries officers (DFOs) from Masaka, Kalangala, Mpigi, Bugiri and Mukono, have completed a one-week study tour on the proper management of Lake Victoria in Tanzania, reports Dismus Buregyeya.The officers, who returned last week from the tour, resolved to adopt the co-management plan of the lake as practiced in Tanzania.The Masaka DFO, Tom Bukenya, told The New Vision that in Tanzania, residents share management responsibilities with the government.He said the community also participates in fighting illegal fishing practices, promoting cleanliness and revenue collection on the lakes.He said beach management units had been formed to fight lake pollution.Ends
