ENTEBBE Municipality has asked Parliament to amend the laws to allow them to collect taxes from the Airport, reports Edith Kimuli. The assistant town clerk, David Kyambadde, told the parliamentary committee on public service and local government that they were restricted by the legal framework to pursue revenue generation.“Additional revenue could have been generated from other sources especially the Airport, but CAA (Civil Aviation Authority) make it difficult. “The laws need to be revisited to empower Local governments,” he said.Entebbe leaders also complained of bringing all ministry headquarters to Kampala, leaving little activity in the area.“The Government was being unfair to us, they are removing all the ministries from here, even State House, if the Lubowa deal had not failed, was going to be shifted,” Jonnie Yebaza, the municipal engineer, said. The committee chaired by Beatrice Byenkya (Hoima) had visited the municipality to pick a leaf on what could be applied in Kampala to make it a better city.Ends
