THE state of UPDF barracks is appalling. Some soldiers buy second-hand clothes that resemble army uniform and boots from markets, Parliament has learnt.Vision Reporters write that due to lack of transport, bodies of dead soldiers took as long as eight months before they are taken for burial. Presenting the report of the committee on defence and internal affairs, the chairperson, Simon Mayende, said soldiers wore a single pair of uniform a year. During a tour of two barracks, the committee learnt that some army officers printed T-shirts and forced soldiers to buy them. Mayende said soldiers “sleep while standing when it rains at night because their buildings leak.”Ends
