A three-bedroom bungalow belonging to a director in the Bank of Uganda (BOU), Joram Kahenano, was yesterday gutted along with all household property.

Bob Kasango, a lawyer in Kampala and his wife, also employed by the BOU, were the other family which has been occupying the guest wing of the house.

A terrified Lillian Kahenano, the housewife, said, “I had just left home when someone called me saying the house was on fire. There was no sign of anything when I left. I think it originated from a short-circuit in the ceiling. Fortunately, nobody was burnt in the house.”

Fire officers fought hard to contain the raging fire that had engulfed the entire house on Plot 101, Ismail Road.

Bugolobi Police post chief Inspector Mukanga rang the fire brigade who made it to the scene immediately but were let down by faulty equipment.

Mukanga said “Oil paint fails the efforts of the fire officers because it lets the fire spread fast, which was the case here.”

Kahenano said he had lived in the house since 1976.
