UGANDA and Kenya have stepped up joint patrols to crack down on armed gangsters operating along the border in Bungoma and Mbale districts.
Bungoma district commissioner Muthui Katee said yesterday the operation had started with three gangsters suspected to be Ugandans, killed at Kibabii area and two AK-47 rifles and 30 bullets recovered.
He said Uganda Police had crossed into Kenya and identified the bodies of the thugs who were also wanted for robbery in Uganda.
Katee said the security teams had established that there was an organised gang which had been operating at the border.
He said the group staged robberies in Uganda and escaped to hide in Kenya.
Similarly, Kenyan robbers hid in Uganda.
He said Police officers had been put at border points to screen those going in and out of the country.
