THE National Political Commissar, Dr. Crispus Kiyonga, has added his weight to those who have slammed the just released UN report accusing Uganda of plundering the DR Congo.
“Why are they (UN) not inquiring about the exploitation of Congo from the time the imperialists entered there so that we can seek reparation for the Congo?” Kiyonga said at Mweya Safari Lodge on Wednesday.
Kiyonga, who was flanked by the Rwandese Patriotic Front (RPF) secretary general, Dr. Charles Murigande, was speaking at a news conference.
This was at the end of three-day talks between Uganda and RPF high-power delegations aimed at rekindling confidence after relations between the two countries soured several years ago following the Kisangani clashes between the countries’ armies.
Kiyonga added that “Congo was not born when Rwanda and Uganda went there.”
“We should find out who looted Congo before so that they pay and Congo can move forward,” he said.
He, however, said he had not yet read the report.
The UN report accuses several top Ugandan and Rwandese military brass of having plundered Congo’s natural resources during the two countries’ presence in the vast embattled central African country.
Murigande described the UN panel on the exploitation of the Congo as being politically motivated.
“These people who produce reports are not as independent as they claim to be and more often when they sit they have a motive irrespective of what they may find on the ground,” he said. Ends
