State witness turns hostile
KAMPALA - The State yesterday suffered a severe blow when one of its witnesses decided to defend two former consultants with the Ministry of Agriculture and Animal Industry, accused of neglect of duty in the valley dams project. Stephen Kanagwa, 41, a former procurement manager at the same ministry, told the Buganda Road Court Magistrate, Charles Sserubuga, that Dr. Thomas Bamusonighe and Jide Jeremiah Fatokun were wrongly charged.

Museveni to address
KAMPALA - President Museveni will address MPs this afternoon on the security situation in Northern Uganda. The meeting will be held at the International Conference Centre. The President and Commander-in-Chief is currently camped in Gulu to fight the rebels of Joseph Kony’s Lords Resistance Army, who are terrorising northern Uganda.

Man to hang for robbery
KAMPALA - The High Court sitting at Nakawa yesterday sentenced a man to hang for robbing sh0.8m using a pistol. Justice Akiiki Kiiza convicted Samuel Ofwono, 20, of Bweyogerere, Wakiso district, after finding him guilty of aggravated robbery. He committed the offence on November 5, 1999 at Namataba village- Kiringi parish, Wakiso, when he waylaid Nathan Kabuho.

LRA rebel body found
gulu - One more body of a Lord’s Resistance Army rebel was on Tuesday discovered in the bushes by the UPDF. This followed an earlier clash in Pader. This brings the total number of rebels killed in the clash to 29. One LRA rebel also surrendered later, the UPDF fourth division spokesman, Lt. Paddy Ankunda, said.
