Eight die in Xmas crash
NABUSANKE — Eight people, four of them from one family, died in a road accident on Christmas Eve on the Kampala -Masaka highway. A Pajero no. UAE 552G heading for Rukungiri, collided with an army Tata lorry no. H4 DF 524 at about 4:00am on Tuesday. The dead included the Pajero driver, Yusuf Ssevvumba, 50, Stanley Rugundu Habukirirwa of Rukungiri, Brenda Kyakunzire, a student of Kinyansaano High School, Mrs. Bukooza, Grace Kayumba, and Mrs. Hope Tumwesigye.

Ssemogerere hails Moi
KAMPALA — Democratic Party chief Paul Ssemogerere has commended President arap Moi for promoting peace in the region. He also congratulated him for completing his last term of office. Kenya goes to polls today to elect Moi’s successor.

MP Kiraso to observe poll
KAMPALA — MP Beatrice Kiraso has travelled to Kenya to monitor presidential elections. Kiraso said she would travel under the African Caribbean and Pacific/European Union Joint Parliamentary Assembly. She said she had been nominated to monitor the elections. Kenyans go to the polls today.

Peaceful Christmas
KAMPALA — Police yesterday said Christmas festivities throughout the country were generally peaceful. Police spokesman Asuman Mugenyi said no major incidents had been reported. He, however, said one of the few criminal incidents reported included a murder in Tororo. Ends
