Meya to coach cricket

THE Uganda Cricket Association (UCA) has appointed former international Andrew Meya new national coach. Meya, a fast bowler, takes over from William Kamanyi.

By Ronnie Kintu THE Uganda Cricket Association (UCA) has appointed former international Andrew Meya new national coach. Meya, a fast bowler, takes over from William Kamanyi. Meya has the task of shaping the national squad for the Mini-World Cup in Canada in June. Kamanyi, who will now concentrate on his new role as the national development officer, guided Uganda to the Quadrangular trophies in 1998 and last year. He also made history when he formed Uganda's first national womens cricket team. UCA honorary secretary Justin Ligyalingi confirmed the appointment. Meanwhile, UCA has named five working committees for the year 2001. Veteran Sam Kakonge is the new chairman disciplinary committee, Andrew Othieno is the chairman Schools Development Programme (SDP) , Francis Ekalunga umpires committee, Edward Sempebwa chairman selection committee and Latimer Mukasa remains chairman Lugogo Sports Club Bar committee.
