The poor are exploited!

SIR—Maize is the present cash crop for people in Busoga. It is unfortunate that the private sector is purchasing this maize at an exploitive price. I mean, 100kg of whole dry and unprocessed maize (full sack) goes for as low as sh5,000 from the peasants who have to buy soap, pay school fees and buy medicines when sick. Can't we have a policy in which the Government buys maize from peasants in Busoga as a top priority. Let the Government buy produce and set baseline prices for it. But businessmen are exploiting the poor. George Kibumba Kampala
