THE World Bank has extended a US$65m (sh112b) credit for road programmes in Uganda, reports Felix Osike. The signing of the credit agreement was held at the World Bank headquarters in Washington on Wednesday. The World Bank’s acting regional vice-president in the Africa Region, Theodore Ahlers, signed on behalf of the bank, while works, housing and communications minister John Nasasira signed on behalf of Uganda. “Nasasira thanked the World Bank for its support to rehabilitate and upgrade Uganda’s infrastructure and the country’s effort to eradicate poverty,” a statement from Nasasira’s office recently said. “Ahlers assured the minister of continued support to Uganda’s development programmes,” the statement added. The ceremony was witnessed by the permanent secretary in the works ministry, Charles Muganzi, ambassador to Washington, Edith Sempala and senior World Bank officials, according to the statement.
