Three Makerere University students on holiday on August 4 caused drama at a drinking joint in Wandegeya. They acted out an arrest scene on phone bringing activity to a standstill as patrons simply watched them. It turned out, one of the boys made a call on his phone to his girlfriend in CCE. He had made an appointment with her to go to Munyonyo for the Miss Uganda function, later in the day. When the call went through, he attempted to talk but before he could do so, sharp voices rang in the background ordering him to sit down and remove his shoes. The only word he uttered was “bantutte” (they have taken me). He then switched off. The poor girl must have thought that he had been arrested. Asked why they did such a thing, the boy said it was a way to avoid taking his girlfriend to Munyonyo because and her roommates to the expensive show. He said he was too poor to engage in such ventures. He would instead save the money and have enough to drink with his friends until the following week when the clips of the contest would surely be telecast on WBS’ show time Magazine. This is when he would show up from “detention” to watch the show with her without paying a coin! Many Makerere students, especially boys, like to pretend they come from rich families and end up living beyond their means. ends
