Tells them to return guns

By Nathan Etengu PRESIDENT Yoweri Museveni on Tuesday visited the Uganda-Kenya border at Nakiloro where the Turkana have killed some Karimojong and raided camels in the past two weeks. Museveni, who donned military fatigues and carried a gun, walked part of the journey until a vantage hill overlooking the valley that marks the Uganda-Kenya border. “I have come to re-discover my land that has been in turmoil,’’ Museveni told The New Vision atop the hill over-looking Moru-Apolon in Kenya. State ministers Ruth Nankabirwa (defence), Grace Akello (entandikwa) and Peter Lokeris (Karamoja) accompanied Museveni on the visit. Lokeris said Museveni was the first post-colonial Ugandan president to visit the area. He said the colonial administrators used to travel to the area to meet their Kenyan counterparts. Museveni said he had “re-captured” his land that had been taken away by the Turkana. He said the rugged road would be rehabilitated as one of the security roads. Museveni, who posed for a photograph with the three ministers, said the area had good pasture but was not grazed. “It is my duty to ensure the Turkana do not disturb you anymore. If you want to go back to Nakiloro, you can go back, but first give me the guns,” Museveni told the Matheniko community at Rupa sub-county headquarters. He directed Brig. Kale Kaihura to provide two pairs of uniforms to the soldiers in the area.
