By Davis Weddi Security in Kampala has been beefed up with the Uganda Peoples Defence Forces and the Military Police joining the Uganda Police Force to patrol city streets ahead of the Christmas and the New Year’s holiday. By yesterday afternoon, the UPDF and Military Police had been deployed in different parts of the city, Kampala’s Police commander Ahmed Wafuba said. “There is going to be tightened security and the UPDF and Military Police have come in to lend a hand in maintaining law and order around Kampala,” Wafuba said. He said all security agencies and their personnel will be expected to be on duty during the holiday season. He warned that any person who keeps a security personnel and offers them alcoholic drinks, commits an offence and is liable to prosecution under the Police statute. “Those selling alcohol, especially enguli, should take care not to entertain police officers on duty at their premises as it will be a punishable offence to provide police officers with booze while they are on duty,” he added. Wafuba advised city residents to leave somebody at home as burglars could strike anytime. He said residents must watch their neighbourhood and report any suspicious incidents to the Police. He also reminded city residents, especially those operating pubs and entertainment spots “to watch out for persons with unnecessary luggage,” as they could be possible agents of terrorism using concealed explosives. He advised that each social spot owner should assign at least one of their staff to be on the lookout. Ends
