AT least three people have been killed and three others injured in clashes between the UPDF and rebels of the Allied Democratic Forces, (ADF) in Bunyangabu, Kabarole district. Tension remained high in Fort Portal town for the second day yesterday as hundreds of people fled the fighting. The Kabarole District Internal Security Officer, Lt. Joseph Kabalega, told The New Vision yesterday that the UPDF was pursuing the group of about 40 rebels who were heading for Kibaale forest. Kabalega, however, declined to give details of the fighting. The New Vision has learnt that two home guards, a UPDF soldier attached to the UPDF 89th battalion and a rebel were killed in the battle. Two children, whose identities could not readily be established, were injured in the fighting and were admitted to Buhinga Government Hospital. Over 100 people fled their homes in the Rutete, Ryamabwa, Kichuchu and Nyakigumba, affected by the fighting. This is the first time this month that rebel remnants have infiltrated Kabarole district. Security sources said the rebels attacked from Kibate forest in the Rwenzori mountains overlooking Kisomoro in Bunyangabu county. Traffic on Fort Portal-Kasese road came to a stand still Thursday as the rebels entered Kisomoro. Ends.
