PRESIDENT Yoweri Museveni on Wednesday night announced that 48 ADF rebels, including their commander, Cobra, had been killed by the UPDF in Kitagwenda, Kamwenge district, reports John B. Thawite. Museveni, who was meeting a delegation of Kasese district leaders at his home in Rwakitura, who included religious leaders, said amid applause, that the rebels were killed on Tuesday. "Yesterday we killed 48 ADF, including Cobra. I am very happy about the killing of this thug," Museveni said. He said Cobra, (Henry Matovu Birungi also known as "Young" and Kikkukyekulidde), had recently fled from the UPDF whom he said were now in full control of the Rwenzori mountains. He warned remnant top rebel commanders, including Abdalla Yusuf Kabanda, the chief director, and Fenahasi Kisokeranio, to surrender before they are killed. "Let those people come out before they are killed. Kabanda is still hiding in Congo. We are going to kill him also," Museveni said. Benz, also known as Tushabe Munyangondo, a former ADF chief of staff, surrendered to the UPDF last year and has been involved in several anti-ADF operations. Maj. Phinehas Katirima, the army spokesman, in a atatement on Wednesday said the UPDF also captured three rebels and rescued three civilians, reports Solomon Muyita. He said the UPDF also recovered 16 sub-machineguns with 20 magazines, seven grenades and four rocket-propelled grenades with four shells and two fuses. Other weapons captured were a box of G.2 ammunition. Katirima said the rebels attacked by the UPDF were about 50, including their self-styled commander, Birungi. Ends.
