THE National Enterprises Corporation (NEC) is to assist UPDF 1st Division female soldiers and wives of soldiers to set up an empowerment project in Mbuya Barracks, NEC Managing Director, Major Fred Mwesigye, has said, reports G. Musamali. He was inaugurating a women's empowerment project in the barracks recently. The project was conceived by Privates Justus Besigye and Janet Kyomukyira. Major Mwesigye said NEC would advance the women sh500,000 as soon as they open a bank account. He said NEC encourages the entrepreneurship spirit among soldiers and would want, at the end of the year, to know how the project had used the initial capital in developing business. During the same occasion, the acting division commander, Lt. Col. Loloto, said there was an inter-relationship between the army's morale and the economic welfare of their families. He said a soldier whose family is economically uncomfortable would not have any morale in the field. He said the project had been initiated because soldiers are very mobile but their spouses are often at home alone for long periods. Alice Muwanguzi, of the NRM secretariat attended. Ends.
