BACK in the old days, an online resume was just a cut-and-paste of your paper resume. Today, we know that what works in print, doesn’t always work online.

BACK in the old days, an online resume was just a cut-and-paste of your paper resume. Today, we know that what works in print, doesn’t always work online.

So, job-seekers are tweaking their print resumes to make sure that it is easy to read and accessible for employers.
Here are some quick and easy ‘tweaks’ you can use for your next online resume:

Use hard returns, rather than relying on word wrap, to create line breaks
Don’t use bold or italics, as you might in a paper resume - instead, use all caps for section titles

Align all text to the left
Update all contact information, hyperlink to your email addresses and personal website. This a great way to showcase your portfolio, if you have one

Ensure that the most important information, like contact information and most recent work/leadership experience is ‘above’ the fold. This means that an employer won’t have to scroll down to get a glimpse of who you are.
