What was your first job? Where and when was it? How much did you earn?
WHEN I was still a student at Makerere University in 1970, I was employed by the university as a research assistant in the department of political science. I used to earn sh200 every month. At the same time, I was an art teacher at Namirembe Secondary School.

What did you learn from it that makes you a good boss?
It shaped me into a good leader. That is why I was nominated as the best Member of Parliament during my time in (7th Parliament). I learnt how to work with people and how to do different things at the same time.

What is the most enduring memory of your first job?
It was challenging since I was still a student. I had to miss classes in order to make money. I also had to read a lot to catch-up with my studies. It was very demanding.

What do you like about your current job?
It is hectic. I would not like anybody to assume that politics is a good job. It is very hard to conduct politics in a poor country like Uganda.

Did the first job change your career path or perspective of life?
It influenced my career. It taught me how to fight for people’s freedom. If it was not for that job, I would not be what I am today.
