THE Federation of Uganda Employers has launched a project code named “Female Future Uganda” to get more women into corporate board rooms.
The 50-year-old federation brings together employers in Uganda to enhance the quality of corporate operations.

Rose Ssenabulya, the executive director, said Uganda needs more women chief executives because “they bring a motherly touch in organisational processes”.

Ssenabulya said according to research, companies with women chief executive officers are more profitable compared to those with male ones .

“The quality of people we employ largely impacts on the performance and competitiveness of our enterprises,” said engineer Martin Kasekende, the federation chairman.

The two were speaking at a working breakfast organised by the federation at the Kampala Sheraton Hotel on Wednesday.

The organisation was launching three new products; improving negotiation skills, working standards and the female future programme.

The federation is partnering with the Confederation of Norwegian Enterprise and other international professional bodies to train women in corporate governance.

The programme, which originated from Norway in 2003, has seen over 1,100 participants qualify for board posts and leadership roles.

This year’s training starts in May and ends in December at the Esami headquarters in Kampala.
In order for participants to fulfil their work commitments while receiving the training, there will only be 15 contact days out of the eight months of training.
Participants will be awarded certificates on completion.
