How can I cure high blood pressure?

Apr 25, 2011

UNFORTUNATELY, you cannot measure pressure by merely looking at your palm like the herbalist made you believe. The best place to have your blood pressure taken is where there is a qualified medical doctor.

Dear Doctor,
I am aged 28. Three years ago, I was diagnosed with pressure. In September 2007, my heart started pumping fast for a few minutes. I went to a herbalist and explained to him. He did not check me, but instead looked at my palm and said I had low blood pressure. He gave me some medicine and I felt relieved. When I went to hospital for a check-up, I was told I did not have high blood pressure.
However in 2009 and 2010, my heart resumed beating fast at around 5:00am up to 7:00am. I stopped taking milk and fried meals, and the heart beat resumed to normal. Did I develop pressure? Can I ignore hospital results and continue to take herbal medicines for pressure? Is it too late for me to be cured of high blood pressure? Are there drugs which can wash away solid fats from my blood vessel so that this pressure goes away?

Susan

Dear Susan,
UNFORTUNATELY, you cannot measure pressure by merely looking at your palm like the herbalist made you believe. The best place to have your blood pressure taken is where there is a qualified medical doctor.

‘Pressure’ to the common man usually translates to a high blood pressure. Palpitations are a common symptom of hypertension which is largely caused by physical and psychological stress. Taking a low-fat diet plays a big role in dealing with hypertension.

Fats squeeze blood vessels, narrowing the blood supply, hence increasing the pressure. Since pressure fluctuates with time, it could be that a change in your lifestyle improved the condition.

Yes there are drugs that wash away the fat, but the doctor must do a lipid profile on you before giving you the drugs because they may end up washing away even the useful fat in your body.

It is important for you to monitor your normal blood pressure and assess the risk factors to avoid reoccurrence.
