The Government of Uganda has described the death of the Al-Qaeda leader Osama Bin Laden as good news.

“It’s good news to us (Uganda) and it’s really a momentous event,” Foreign Affairs Minister, Sam Kutesa, told the New Vision on Monday morning.

The al-Qaeda leader was killed in a ground operation outside Islamabad based on US intelligence, the first lead for which emerged last August.

Kutesa said Uganda, one of the Countries that fights terrorism welcomes the news and believes Osama’s death will undermine the efforts of the Al-Qaeda.

The Minister congratulated the United States for the raid that left him dead adding that Osama and his terrorist groups were a security threat worldwide.

Bin Laden was accused of being behind a number of atrocities, including the attacks on New York and Washington on 11 September 2001.
