EMBATTLED former vice president Gilbert Bukenya has petitioned the constitutional court seeking to stop the Inspector General of Government (IGG) from prosecuting him at the Anti-Corruption court until his petition challenging the constitutionality of the cases is finally concluded.

Bukenya contends that the charges against him in the Anti-Corruption Court contradict the Constitution and; the law regarding them needed to be interpreted by the court before the IGG proceeded with them against him.

According to Bukenya’s affidavit supporting his application, he argues that throughout his service as vice president, his duties were always derived from the office of the President and upon direction of the President.

Bukenya, on June 16, 2011, appeared before the Anti-Corruption Court and took plea in which he denied charges of abuse of office and fraudulent practice.
