Joshua Kasibo, a city businessman, was over the weekend arrested with smuggled spirits and wines worth sh200m.

The Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) enforcement officials swung into action late on Sunday, impounding a truck full of the smuggled products in Kasibo’s house in Kireka, a city suburb.

The URA officials indicated that the products attracted taxes worth sh70m. Julius Nkwasire, the URA acting assistant commissioner for enforcement, told reporters on Monday that Kasibo was in 2007 also involved in a similar incident. He was fined sh220m in taxes and penalties over that incident. Nkwasire said the products were purportedly destined for Burundi.
