SC Villa director of football, Joseph Kanaaba is supposed to be a senior management figure serving as a link between the team and the board of directors.

But he has moved from the comfort of the boardroom to the Jogoos technical bench following Coach Srdjan Zivojnov exit before Villa renew rivalry with Express at Namboole on Friday. Villa assistant coach Paul Mukatabala is also fired.

“I have taken charge of the coaching role until we get a replacement for Zivojnov,” Kanaaba told New Vision Online.

Zivojnov could not stand the pressure that came with an ultimatum of either win today or get fired.

“I tried to do my best but the pressure for results was too much. I am leaving,” said Zivojnov who had gone seven matches with only one win.

Kanaaba said his first task is to ensure that the team had the right attitude. “I must say I was impressed with the first session. The boys were lively.”

Kanaaba’s first tactical decision was to change from Zivojnov’s preferred 4-3-3 to a 3-5-2. “I am changing because that’s what fits in the available resource.”

As Villa struggle to get to grips with competition without a substantive coach, Express are raring to go. “Save for my suspended captain Godfrey Kavulu, all is well in my camp. I just can’t wait to play Villa,” Express coach Sam Ssimbwa said.

The last time the two sides met the game ended in a draw. But Ssimbwa is confident the Red Eagles will this time soar over Villa.

KCC who have also just sacked their coach Matia Lule find themselves in an almost similar situation like Villa when they take on high flying Masaka LC. Morley Byekwaso is barely a week in charge at Lugogo.

Water and Maroons meet in Luzira.  Masaka and Water in second and fourth position respectively are the most improved sides. Maroons on the other are coming off a 2-0 win over Fire Masters.
