European Union Commissioner for Development Visits Uganda

Mr. Andris PIEBALGS, European Union Commissioner for Development Cooperation will be on an official visit to Uganda from 8th to 9t November 2011.

Mr. Andris PIEBALGS, European Union Commissioner for Development Cooperation will be on an official visit to Uganda from 8th to 9t November  2011. 
 
In further strengthening the good relations between the European Union and the Government of Uganda, Commissioner Piebalgs will be announcing new areas of strategic co-operation, unveil a completed EU-funded road project and break the ground for a new one as well as delivering key political messages to the government.
 
Ahead of his trip, Commissioner Piebalgs said: "I am excited to be returning to Uganda. It is a country with enormous potential. The EU is determined to launch innovative support to agriculture, boost private sector actions and address infrastructure constraints to unlock that potential."
 
During the visit, the Commissioner will also announce the launch on November 21st 2011, by the EU Delegation to Uganda, of a '"Structured Dialogue for an efficient partnership in development" initiative.

This will seek to foster more strategic engagement between local authorities and civil society.

This is high on the EU agenda and at the heart of forthcoming EU policy framework, where governance and democratic ownership are key elements.
